Understanding Biochemistry

Biochemistry is one of the simplest course units at University but due to the students’ mindset towards it.

Biochemistry encompasses the macro molecules that make up life which are usually called the “chemicals of life”.

Biochemistry deals with the general study of these macro molecules for example carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and many more.

In the first semester of the course, you are introduced to the structure and functions of the compounds only for example structure and functions of proteins, and among others.

In our second semester of study is where we greatly talk about the metabolism. This talks deep about the enzymatic reactions in both the catabolism and anabolism of the molecules eaten in form of food.

In this, the organism of study is looked at in

I) Fed state meaning after eating.

II) Hunger state

III) Starvation state and finally

IV) in normal state of the body or at rest.

The pathways are looked at deeper and enzymes and clinical correlates are prioritized since this helps medical workers to know what’s wrong and hence correct it.

Genetics is also looked at. Replication, transcription and translation.

Immunology plus DNA technology, HIV and finally Oncogenesis.

On this site you will be provided with understandable pdfs that will help you comprehend note of the biochemistry and finally fall in love with it.
